The GM 8-speed transmission has faced several issues, including excessive vibration and harsh or delayed shifts. Many of these problems can stem from low or inconsistent transmission fluid pressures. Transmission fluid pressure is closely tied to fluid temperature: as temperature rises, fluid viscosity decreases, requiring the oil pump to work harder to maintain the desired pressure. However, if the transmission fluid viscosity becomes too low due to overheating, the pump and valve body may struggle to maintain sufficient pressure. This is why AC-Delco developed the Dexron HP ATF - its stable viscosity profile helps minimize pressure fluctuations caused by temperature changes. The PPE 8L45/8L90 Deep Cast Aluminum Pan does the same thing - managing the transmission heat and keeping the transmission fluid viscosity in a desirable range. Cast from high-grade A356.0-T6 aluminum alloy, it offers 3.9 quarts of additional fluid capacity, ensuring long-lasting heat management and performance. The deep external cooling fins maximize the heat-wicking surface area, effectively dissipating heat to keep your transmission cool under pressure. These fins also add strength to the bottom of the pan and enhance impact resistance. The built-in baffles at the bottom of the pan increase contact between the fluid and the cast-aluminum surfaces, enhancing heat transfer. These baffles also reduce fluid sloshing, ensuring consistent fluid pickup and stable transmission performance. Together with the longitudinal external fins, they form a stiff, cross-bracing structure, distributing loads better and increasing impact resistance. This kit also comes with three CNC machined aluminum filter supports and a fluid level check standpipe. The drain plug and the fluid level check plug are both equipped with a powerful, high-temperature-rated neodymium magnet that captures ferrous metal particles, providing additional protection for your transmission.
