- SIZE MATTERS! The Apex Through Shaft Ram utilizes the appropriate shaft and body diameter to optimize performance with the Apex boosted factory electronic power steering system. Meaning the factory steering system is able to keep up with the fluid demands of the Through Shaft Ram because it was engineered to work hand in hand with the stock steering system on the JL and JT . This eliminates the laggy feel that can come from ram assist steering. Whereas in the past it was typical to experience a laggy/slow steering feel with most ram assist kits simply because the ram was too large and the factory system could not keep up with fluid volume requirements of the hydraulic ram. So… Why Through Shaft and not a traditional ram? Through Shaft technology provides equal steering assist on your push and pull movements of the ram and is powered by the stock steering gear. Additionally, the TSR also behaves like a steering stabilizer on steroids - providing more accurate steering characteristics on and off road. Traditional rams do not provide this accuracy benefit. Also, you no longer have to compensate for shaft and fluid displacement in the body of the ram, this obsoletes the need for a larger volume reservoir whereas traditional rams need larger reservoirs due to shaft displacement in the body of the ram. Is the TSR compatible with the APEX Steering Boost Kit? The answer is yes! The TSR is compatible with the Apex Boost Kit and when paired together it greatly improves steering power for tires up to 40". If you are looking to get the most out of your steering system, we recommend installing our Boost Kit in addition to the Through Shaft Ram system. Do I have to install a Boost Kit in order to install the Through Shaft Ram? The answer is no. Part of the design concept behind the Through Shaft Ram was to not only improve off-road performance, it was also designed to enhance the on-road drivability of the Jeep JL and JT. The TSR greatly improves steering accuracy and also eliminates the sloppy feeling that you often times experience while driving the JL and JT down the highway. If you are running 35s or smaller you can install the ram with or without the boost kit. Even without the Boost Kit, the TSR will enhance the on and off-road capabilities of your daily driven Jeep.
